Classes

2017-2018 season

BEGINNING ACADEMY CLASSES

Beginning Academy classes are for the dancer with little or no previous dance experience. These dancers focus on learning flexibility, basic ballet and terminology, and beginning leaps and turns. These Academy classes perform two dances at our winter and spring recitals and will get a new costume for each recital. At Diversity Dance, we know our beginning students are our future stars so we don't take their training lightly. We are proud of their progress and love to watch them grow and improve. We accept students ages 3-18 for the beginning classes.

INTERMEDIATE ACADEMY CLASSES

Intermediate Academy classes are for the dancer with at least two years previous dance experience who know the basics and are ready for more! Our teachers move at a faster pace for these dancers and incorporate more technical skills to help these students step up to the next level. These Academy classes perform at our Winter and Spring recitals, as well as compete at one recreational competition in March! They will get a new costume for each recital. We accept students ages 3-18 for the intermediate classes.

COMPANY TEAMS

Company dancers are required to have had at least one year of prior dance experience before trying out and will be focusing on advancing their technique and skills into more performance opportunities. Our Company teams compete at four competitions, March through April and will also perform at both the winter and spring recitals and other community events. At tryouts, each dancer will be placed on a team that they will shine best in and then will be required to attend all classes and rehearsals. It is essential that both dancer and parent understand that being a Company dancer requires a commitment and dedication to the team so that all involved can enjoy the positive experience and lessons that come from this opportunity. We accept students ages 5-18 with previous dance experience.

TUMBLING FOR DANCE

Any student who adds tumbling to their schedule will quickly become a better dancer because of all the strength and flexibility they gain from tumbling. You don't have to be enrolled in a dance class to do a tumbling class but we highly recommend it. In Tumbling For Dance, our instructors help students learn all the main tumbling skills, then help them transfer those skills from the mats to the dance floor. They focus on straightening the knees and pointing the feet so that these skills can be used in dances as well! We offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes. Check the schedule for a description of requirements for each level. Minimum age is 5.

BALLET CLASSES

Ballet is the basis of every style of dance and Diversity Dance is proud to offer an in-house ballet program. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on the Cecchetti method. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. Students will focus on building the strength, flexibility and control needed to execute ballet moves. Ages 3-18.

HIP HOP CREW

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Students will be encouraged to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements. Hip Hop Crew is a part of the Academy program and will perform at both the Winter and Spring recitals. Minimum age is 7.

ACRO CLASSES

Acro is not the typical tumbling or gymnastics class. Our accredited acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. The class format will focus on building core strength and flexibility while acuiring valuable skills that can be easily transferred to dance, cheer, and gymnastic routines. Minimum age is 5.
